Beyond a Curse: Living Without Fear

Can practitioners of voodoo and black arts and witchcraft really harm the children of God? Should we be afraid of spells, incantations, and the evil eye? For many the answer is an unequivocal ‘Yes.’ They truly believe the reason for their sickness, or failure in business, or marriage problems are rooted in curses placed upon them by envious, spiteful, and covetous rivals.

The Bible on the other hand teaches us that in Christ we are not only free from the power of sin but that we are secure under the cover of his blood and empowered to keep all the enemies of Christ under our feet (Ep.1:22). The scripture tells us that no weapon formed against us will prosper and the tongue that rises against us in judgement we will condemn (Isa.54:17). We are more than conquerors in Christ and greater is he who lives in us than he who is on the world (Ro.8:37; 1Jn.4:4). In the name of Jesus we will cast out devils, tread on scorpions and nothing will be able to harm us (Mk.16:17; Lk.10:19). And so the biblical response to the question, can curses harm us, is a clear No. At best curses can only flit or hover over us. They cannot land for we are beyond the curse (Prov.26:2).
