Rebel With a Cause: & Other Treasures from the Mines of King David

David is a study in contrasts. He was called a man after God’s heart and his psalms provide ample evidence of his devotion to Jehovah. But David was also an adulterer and murderer. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and killed her husband to cover up his crime. The result of that stain in his life was the dismantling of his home and the eventual collapse of his kingdom. His life proved that while God is full of mercy and will forgive those who call on him in repentance that we must be prepared to deal with the consequence of our sinful actions. The warning “Be sure your sins will find you out” eventually made good its promise to this otherwise stellar musician, warrior and statesman, arguably Israel’s greatest king.

In this volume, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, I tried to highlight some of the mountain peaks in David’s life and career. In Rebel with a Cause I offered a response to David’s rhetorical question: “Is there not a cause for my coming to the battlefield at this time?”

In Capturing the Heart, I attempted to show that David’s selection and capture of Jebus and converting it to the beautiful Jerusalem is a picture of the change that Jesus makes in the heart that yields to his saving grace.

In Sharing the Spoils, I used the story of David pursuing Amalek and recovering the wives and children and possession of his people as a prophecy of what Jesus, the Son of David, would accomplish by means of his death and resurrection. In his obedience to God he restored to humanity much more than Adam had forfeited through his disobedience.

In Mepibosheth: Dead Dog Turned Prince, my aim is to show the wondrous transformation that will take place when those ‘dead in sin’ respond to the call of God.

And in Psalm 23: The World’s Most Beautiful Song, my desire is simply to remind readers of the sufficiency of Jesus Christ for all our needs.

I hope these meditations enrich your life by challenging you to make Jesus your Lord and Savior if you have not already done so.
