Secure the Upper Springs: Key to the Abundant Life
In a day when 24 hours seems inadequate to get all the things we want done, it is easy to trade off our relationship with God for things of lesser importance. Meditation in the Word of God and prayer are the first casualties in this struggle for time. Unfortunately it is this breakdown in relationship between us and our God that is at the root of all our struggles to manage work and life. God has promised us that if we seek first his kingdom and his righteousness that he will add to us all the things we need for a happy and successful life. This is the lesson that is fortified by Caleb when his daughter asked him for the lower springs and he gave her the upper springs instead. He understood that once we have control over the upper springs we never have to worry about our supplies.
My prayer is that in spite of the hectic demands that life and ministry makes upon us we will not surrender our pursuit of the ‘upper springs’ of the Spirit for it is from him that all life flows. When we are full of the Spirit we will discover that springs of living waters will flow out from our bellies and “that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live” (Jn.7:38; Ezek.47:9).
