In the Cleft of the Rock: A Call to the Crucified Life
We fear death. Advancements in medical science and technology are aimed at staving off death as long as possible. The hundreds of euphemisms for death prove we resist even saying the word. Unfortunately, the concept of death also holds terror for Christians. We are not so much afraid of death of the physical body for we embrace the hope of a resurrection. What we fear is death to the natural or self-life. Yet, the way to glory, power, and fruitfulness require death to the carnal nature. It is only when the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies that it will bring forth fruit. It is only when we are united with Christ is his death that we can be united with him in his resurrection. If we will follow after Christ we must be prepared to deny ourselves take up our cross daily, and follow him. The cross however leads directly to Calvary and to death. To follow Christ is to be prepared to die daily.
In this series of messages, the author seeks to remove the fear of death of the natural man by highlighting the power and glory that awaits those who will unite with Christ in his death. We will experience the power of his resurrection. We will find our lives only when we lose it for Christ.
